This is some pretty crazy footage of the steam blast that rocked Manhattan on July 18, 2007. Video courtesy of Crooks and Liars.
Now I'm being "encouraged" to GTFO. At this point, no one has a clue if it's just steam and water or if something insane has actually happened. Rocks are flying everywhere, I've been hit 2x and saw a guy get wiped out by a huge hunk.
One pushed me inside the building. I don't blame him - he was trying to keep my dumb ass safe.
I was at the Duane Reade at 42nd and Lexington when I heard a rumble. I walked out the door and the manhole cover literally blew right into the air just as I walked out. This is video from however long it took me to get the phone out.
I've been taken to the closest "quarantined" corner. Overall, the firefighters and police are extremely cool about everything, but very intent on keeping everyone safe.
