When the NFL first came into existence they move the goalposts up 10 yrds to contrast with the college game and increase scoring. For years with straight on kickers, a 35 yrd field goal was a dicey proposistion. It wasn't until the 70's, Pete Gogolack and the advent of the soccor style kickers that NFL moved the posts back to where they belong.
Boxes964 Says:
what the hell the feild goal post was right in the middle of the touch down lane?

Lovegainers5 Says:
Mike Ditka was the pioneer! He created a new type of tight end that was a threat instead of just a blocking reciever or a recieving lineman that just caught a few passes and blocked most of the time! He could do it all which is something that is missing from the position these days!
TheWholeSystemisFckd Says:
Ill never understand how logical human beings thought it was a good idea to have the field goal post at the front of the endzone. I mean seriously, its so moronic to me, i just dont know

I know how he hurt his hip, an it wasn't in football. He was friends with joe Marconi, and they lived in a subdivision in downers grove, Illinois, my home town. They were at the pool drunk, and mike was in the clubhouse balcony. Joe was jumping on the diving boar with his pants around his ankles, and mike was laughing so hard he fell off the balcony, landed on his hip, and has had a bad hip ever since. If you're wondering how I know this, I'm friends with joe Marconi's grand kids.
mreman2 Says:
Mike Ditka is soo overrated. Most people didn't know who he was until the Bears began to be successful. I've been a fan since the late 60's, and for the life of me, I never heard of him before the Bears started to rise in the mid-80's.
