Agreed. People should be more aware of what they say before they say it. That guy using that term to describe Lin, even if it's not referring to his race, is the equivalent of someone using the word "Niggardly" to describe a African american person, without referring to their race but to their personality.

"Chink" is considered a Racist term by Asian people. Chink is called to someone who is chinese or chinese look-alike(from other asian countries)...... From Urban Dictionary

tedatlas Says:
No, quite the opposite, actually. You and the rest of the dumb asses who insist that this is a racial issue fail to understand that "chink in the armor" is a very commonly used idiom, that in no way has anything to do with the racial slur "chink", other than that it is spelled the same. If you don't understand that one word can have multiple meanings, then you are a lost cause and not worth arguing with.

The term does not have anything to do with Chinese people but in this case the term was used to describe Jeremy Lin and the Knicks. You are just too stupid too understand that it is racist when referring to Lin.

I have thought long and hard on this question. and I have changed my mind a few times as to it. Right now I dont have a problem with someone saying this while reporting on a team...the phrase is not racist. However as for putting it in the title of something I read? I think thats different. that use is just a little too personal when only talking about the one Chinese guy ....I think a guy should know not to use that as a title.

Yeah, because "cracker face" was a well established idiom, you jackass. It's funny how many Asians have been posting on these videos trying to shoehorn in the words "nigger" and "cracker" to try and make some convoluted point.

i call my white friend a cracker face and now hes mad at me wtf, i was just teasing him about his sloppy eating, getting crackers all over his face, when is food racist?

Not racist, just Not PC. Maybe he should have said, a dent in the fender? But Judy Dent has eye problems and that would not be very sensitive to her.

I'm not excusing racist terms, man. "chink in the armor" is a commonly used idiom. If it was used to describe a player of any other race, this would not be an issue at all. Like I said to the other dude, I see why people THINK it was racist.. because they read the word "chink" and their minds don't allow them to see past that word. But that isn't the writers problem. Also, checking for spelling and grammar doesn't include going over your work to see if it's offensive or not.

tedatlas Says:
Oh yes, the evil white anchor, who covers a sport that is played mostly by black American's, is racist against Chinese people for some reason. He used a common idiom to describe a weakness in J-Lin's game. Was it insensitive? As I said before, I really don't think so. I can see why people would think so, though. But only because of how pc this culture has become.

Dude, c'mon. It's one thing to be cavalier about some things, but it's a whole nother to excuse racist terms. People have to check their work; it's part of writing and of journalism (not recently, but that's a topic for another time). You check your spelling and grammar all the time to improve the clarity of your message. It's on that same level. Also, slurs don't have to be about the people they abuse, it's about the misconception of the slur-thrower.

Google "chink in the armor" and see what you get. I just did, and if you ignore all sensationalist headlines about this non-issue, then you'll find out that it has nothing to do with Chinese people.

As a european that follows football I will say no in that sense in football terms. However when it is used in the US in that term about him I could see it being racist and uncalled for.

HaloedG Says:
@tedatlas the term "Chink" however IS racist...who made this term? Likely the same group the anchor represented....
Feb 21, 2012
HaloedG Says:
@tedatlas Its that kind of thinking you exhibit, that keeps racism alive. You tell people to just deal with it...are your rights being completely being trampled by people TEACHING you the term, when referring to Asians, is derogatory....teaching what racism is and teaching people to UNlearn it is necessary...

Deepstarr7020 Says:
It was used as a Double Entendre. There's no way in hell someone to could type the word "chink" when talking about someone who is Asian, and not say to themselves " oh, wait a minute...that might come off as racial". No one is that innocent.
Feb 21, 2012
tedatlas Says:
The idiom "chink in the armor" has never been a racist term. Haven't looked it up, but I'd be willing to bet that it predates the racial slur of "chink" for Chinese people. It's pretty commonly used, and I really don't think it's racist at all. We don't need to raise awareness, we need to stop being so petty.
