I think they changed it, is cause I don't think the actors that played spider man before want to keep playing the same character over and over. Most of the old actors of spider moved onto new movie projects, it's how the industry works. Can't stick to one thing forever. lol

You need to understand that the Spider-Man (2002) movie was inaccurate to the comics. In the comics Peter actually met Mary Jane for the very first time while he was in college.
