you can really tell when he was being interviewed how nice of a guy he was
Apr 6, 2012 crx122 Says:
When the lady interviewing Selmon talks about him being defensive player of the year, he doesn't say one thing about himself, he talks about how it is recognition for his whole team. How many players in the modern game would do that? I do think because he wasn't an arrogant, self fulfilling person who made a big deal of himself, that he is incredibly underrated. I don't see too many people on this list who meant more to their team than he did, it is a shame that he isn't where he belongs; top 50

Well, he played for Tampa Bay, dude. It's a crap sports market #1, and #2 the Bucs sucked. Had he played in New York he would've gotten all kind of media attention.

Good player, to be sure. But if he is in the Hall of Fame, how is Jim Marshall not?

Ron Wolf never misses, does he? Secret genius behind the Raiders. Leaves, builds the Bucs up to an NFC Championship game. Goes back to the Raiders, helps them build their last two Super Bowl teams. Leaves them...they fall apart and he builds the Packers up to a Super Bowl championship. Amazing. Lee Roy Selmon was an amazing player. RIP to a gentle giant.

Can you imagine him playing for the Steelers instead of the Bucs?!? my god that would have been epic.
Dec 17, 2011 cityhawk Says:
The reason why I always have respect for Lee Roy Selmon was that, unlike a Tony Dorsett (who went out of his way to say that he didn't want to play for the Seahawks), he never thought he was too good to play for an expansion team. That is class to me. Tony took the easy way out, Lee Roy didn't. RIP.

The world got to know his through his awesome abilities on the field, but I was blessed to have him in my family. He truly was an awesome man of God. Loving, kind, and gentle with a great sense of humor. Had a smile that would light up a room. We will forever miss you...until we meet on the other side.
